In a positive and resourceful manner, a group of individuals have come to the realization that the phenomenon of cauliflower ears could also generate revenue by crafting replicas of these unique auditory developments. According to their patent (US 20130326793), they have created "An apparatus and method for wearing replica ‘cauliflower’ ears which are moulded from the actual cauliflower ears of athletes [in] contact sports including mixed martial arts (MMA), wrestling, rugby, boxing."
The patent goes on to define cauliflower ears as unique and distinguished to each athlete, often regarded as badges of honor by both athletes and fans alike. The objective is to supply an artificial replica for enthusiasts that may not have the desire or capability to acquire their own self-induced cauliflower ears.
Furthermore, they have even proposed a modification which would incorporate earphones into the artifact, enabling wearers to listen to event commentators. Inventors Andrew James Bingley, Walter David McCrindle, and Christopher Brian Prickett, who live in Fergus, California, have submitted the patent application. The patent’s existence will not deter Californian company Dedicated Few from selling their own replicas of cauliflower ears.
California is well-known for producing $50 million worth of traditional cauliflower annually, although this crop is non-human and non-aural. The cauliflower’s defining shape inspired the name "cauliflower ear." Some athletes who have acquired genuine cauliflower ears regret it later on. Remedies include aspiration (eliminating the sticky material), or surgery if necessary. According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, silicone molding could remedy the issue, allowing the subject to continue competing while they heal.
Cauliflower ears, for the general population, are frequently viewed as a medical problem. Dedicated Few has adopted a similar attitude toward their phony cauliflower ears, stating on their website that "for health reasons," they cannot accept returns.
